"Fusion Cuisine" is the 32 episode of the first season in Steven Universe, and the 32 In an effort to win over Connie's parents, Steven convinces the Gems to fuse to let Connie hang out with Steven until they have met both of his parents. In this episode, Connie's (Steven's best friend) parents want to meet Steven's parents. The only problem? Steven's mom is dead and he considers the Crystal.
Greg introduces himself and then Alexandrite as his wife. Steven comes up with lies about how they met and what they do, much to the disapproval of Connie. After Alexandrite's much less than impeccable behavior at dinner, Connie asks to speak with Steven.
Connie chastises Steven for bringing the giant Gem. After Steven realizes Connie still wears her glasses despite her eyes being healed by him he begins to suspect that Connie is ashamed of him, and they both return to the table. When they get back outside, Alexandrite begins to destabilize over eating shrimp. The discord causes her to split back into Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl.
Garnet, upset at Amethyst and Pearl for putting their needs before Steven's, chides them and smacks them on the head. Maheswaran admonishes Connie for lying to her, which causes Connie to run crying to the bus stop, with Steven going after her. Connie and Steven decide to run away so they can be friends without having to worry about Connie's parents' disapproval. As they are leaving on a bus, the enraged Gems fused back as Alexandrite catch up to them and force them to return.
All of this is a result of her exposure with Steven and is proof of how a figure like Steven can inspire someone like Connie to express what they could not have done before.
She becomes more upset when Steven tries to downplay the situation and disregards her feelings possibly to avoid facing his own, as well as the harsh reality of the situation, at least for the time beingand decides to take some time away from him in order for the two of them to process their respective feelings about the incident alone.
When Steven and the rest of the Crystal Gems are incapacitated by Blue Diamond's pathokinesis attack, she leaps into action and tries to attack Blue Diamond with Lion to free them.
While the attack ultimately fails, and results in her sword being broken, she continues to fight alongside the rest of the Gems. Later, after Steven is knocked unconscious by Yellow Diamond, she frantically tries to wake him, reminding him via her thoughts of their reconstituted promise to always be a team. She was able to work in partnership with Steven and his shield. She can fight swiftly in light attacks or with power in heavy attacks. Due to being ambidextrous, she can fight with equal skill with either hand. Due to the close bond they share, Steven can coordinate his shield techniques perfectly with Connie's swordplay, such as fighting back-to-back with her to defend and attack simultaneously or catapulting Connie from his shield for a powerful lunge attack.
Connie is shown to be very intelligent for her age, knowing a lot about boats, reading very hard books she enjoys reading books such as The Spirit Morph Saga and also enjoys reading non-fiction for fact and to get smarter than she already ishaving proficiency in tennis, violin-playing and swordfighting, having an extensive vocabulary, and even managing to find loopholes in her parents' many rules.
In "Gem Hunt", she is shown to be very prepared and intelligent when it comes to surviving in the wilderness, thanks to reading a book.
Connie is shown to have very impressive survival skills, thanks to reading a book 20 times all about it. Thanks to her book, she has adopted these skills and was perfectly able to locate a spot to hide from the Gem Monsters, as well as make a very healthy, Vitamin C-rich tea out of pine needles.
In addition to her swordsmanship, in "Mindful Education", it is revealed that Connie possesses some hand-to-hand combat skills, presumably through her combat training under Pearl. Due to her training, she was able to grab a fellow student at her school by the arm and throw him to the ground, breaking his arm in the process, albeit unintentionally as he had accidentally bumped into her which caused her to attack and injure him instinctively.
As shown in "Mindful Education", Connie's reflexes have been honed to such an extent that she reacts to a perceived threat before she knows what she is doing, as she attacked a fellow student who bumped into her without realizing it until after the fact. Connie rushes towards her target and attacks them with several hits from her sword.
Connie stand in front of an ally and block all damage and counter attacks. Connie gives several strikes against a single enemy dealing heavy damage. In "Nightmare Hospital", the sword is given to Connie by Steven because she is learning how to sword-fight.
After pleading with her mother to change her "No Swords" rule, and even taking Steven to follow her to work to secretly obtain the sword, she finally is able to display her swordswoman skills alongside Steven to protect her mother, herself, and Steven from the Cluster Gem patients. Her mother promises to back down on some of the rules and to keep an open mind about everything that has been happening.
Connie and her mother then embrace. She is shocked to learn that Steven is fourteen years old and therefore older than her. After Greg shows her a picture album depicting Steven's several birthdays during his life, she is surprised to see that he has not grown up in his last few birthdays.
Connie asks Greg to talk in private and asks him whether Steven is going to grow up. As Greg says that he is not sure, Connie is visibly concerned. When Steven uses shapeshifting to make himself look older, Connie is impressed and amazed at his change.
They spend the rest of the day together. Later on the same day, Connie and Steven are stargazing when she decides to confess that she was worried that they would not be able to grow up together and that she was relieved to see that she was wrong.
This revelation causes Steven to lose control of how old he feels and revert into a baby. Connie gets desperate and takes Steven to Greg. She tells Steven that she will always be with him no matter what age he is, which makes him stop crying. She wakes up the next day to find Steven back to his normal age.

She notices a single hair on his face and is relieved to see that he is growing up, although slowly. Connie nervously runs over, excusing Steven by saying that Kevin looks like another guy they know. Greg asks if the two know Kevin, and Connie explains the events of what happened when they formed Stevonnie before. Connie then continues that it was uncomfortable when Kevin kept asking them to dance, and Steven adds that Kevin did not even care about their feelings.
Greg says that if he is causing this much trouble, then there's no point to even thinking about him, and she thanks Greg. Steven is still mad at the incident with Kevin, but Connie is somehow thinking about the situation and wishes that she could just say something big to Kevin to get him to think.

Steven says that he wishes he could race against Kevin, and rub the winning ribbon in his face. Connie says that kids cannot drive because it is against the law, but Steven mentions that they were not kids when they were Stevonnie, and Connie understands Steven's metaphor. As they race Kevin, Stevonnie eventually unfuses after becoming unstable. Steven and Connie are shown in the back seat, asking each other if they are ok after they were unfused.
Connie asks what they explained to Steven that all they have been doing for that past day is because they are obsessed with Kevin.
The two decide to finish the race, but for themselves instead of to beat Kevin.
