It was many times former champion Jackie Carthy who gave valliant chase to her Kilmore A. The ever-reliable Ann Sullivan of DMP came home in the bronze medal position and it was later to transpire that she had led DMP team to a terrific gold medal in the team competition.

This was quite a surprise, as Kilmore have been unstoppable in this category for a long number of years and it rounded off an excellent week following the DMP mens gold-medal performance the previous Sunday at the Wexford novice xc. Our SBR ladies put in a terrific performance to win bronze medals in the team race, with Ciara Bowe being our first scorer as she had an excellent run to pick her way through the field en route to a great sixth place.

Then we had Belinda Kehoe, who finished the race in great fashion and looks in top shape for her first attempt at the Dublin marathon in two weeks time. The ever-dependable Lillian Lawless was next home, with Christine Hill rounding out the scoring foursome with a battling run. Great going ladies, well done. Then it was onto the senior mens 10km race and this proved an excellent event. Ger put up a great performance to cross the line in front again, with Aeden coming home very strongly to claim a brilliant silver medal on his senior cross country debut.

Niall filled the bronze position, completing a top-class podium. The team race always promised to be very tight and this proved an understatement, with one point eventually separating the first two teams.

Not surprisingly this website are delighted to report that it was the SBR mens team who claimed the gold medals by the single point from United Striders and we are more than happy to add that this gold medal equalled the long-standing record held by Leevale A. Needless to say it was a hard-earned win and this team competition led to one of the most exciting races within a race for years.

Our SBR ''B'' team pulled out all the stops too and were rewarded with the bronze medals. The team consisted of a number of athletes who have scored on our gold medal senior winning teams over the years, showing the strength in depth of the SBR squad. Well done to all the athletes who competed on the day and massive thanks to all the supporters from SBR and the various clubs who travelled to cheer on the runners, your energy was much appreciated by all competitors.
